Hi,

It works here - the setup is just not complete yet.
It should be possible to compile the current 6.16 PRO with XE2.
64bit support will be only in WPTools 6 PRO or PREMIUM, not in WPTools Standard.
An edition for FireMonkey is planned but no guarantee its possible. The framework has probably to mature a bit.
64 bit support is clearly targetet to server applications. That's a market where €200 should be not too much.
Also, the PRO edition includes 100% source which brings you other benefits, too. i.e. better produktivity.
The real reason is: Since there seems to be a new Delphi version EVERY year, the distribution process is already bloated. Having to add two new DCU formats each year is simply too much.
And ... I do not think there are huge upgrade charges for WPTools. WPTools 6 is there since 2008 and the XE2 support (32bit) is added for free.
Techically it is true: 64 Bit does not make so much sense for a normal desktop application.
But: Users always ask "I have a 64 Bit operating system. Do you have a 64 Bit version of the software?" And that has no technical reason! Most normal users even do not have a real idea what 64 Bit means anyway. But it is hip. It sounds cool for the users to say "All my software is 64 Bit".

I'd really like FireMonkey support. I've just upgraded to v6 for XE support (and XE2 when you have it - I'm just gathering components currently) but FireMonkey is a key target for cross platform. I need reporting on the Mac too. I'd say that it would be fine to charge for FM support.
Im investigating on FireMonkey - it works entirely different to VCL so an FMX edition of WPTools will require a lot of new code.
The biggest problem I have with FM right now - you can get a black screen and then you are kind of lost. Some parameters trigger an error in the Windows D2D DLL (Direct X) - the output goes bad and you can find the problem only by trial and error. FMX also does not use window container - any output is drawn on the same rectangle.
But yes, creating an edition for FMX of WPTools (and WPViewPDF) is very high on the list here.
I heard they are releasing a VCL converter for FireMonkey this week in alpha release called MonkeyGroomer. Maybe it will help?
Hi,
thats probably just a converter for DFM files. But I assume there will be also necessary updates to the FMX code. I hope that will help.

Hi Julian,
some news about planning a FireMonkey edition of WpTools/WpReporter?
I plan a firemonkey edition - but I find it a bit difficult to use. In my tests simple drawings worked, but when it got too complicated I got a black screen. The trouble happened somewhere in the DirectDraw DLL and there was no way to trace it.
The following statement was a show stopper for our use of the FireMonkey:
ZitatVirtual machine and virtual execution environments (like Citrix) might pose a more significant challenge, as most of them do not support a GPU and not everything in FireMonkey can fall back to GDI+. This is not a FireMonkey specific issue, as other application platforms suffer the same problems.
I think the source of this statement was the following paper: Discover FireMonkey, The Next Generation Business Application Platform by Marco Cantù
Guess what our customers are using quite frequently... Citrix and Terminal Servers for client apps and virtualized servers for server apps.
Hi,
If there was a possibility to use a different renderer than DirectX, I think that would really help. Maybe it is possible to adapt AGG to do it? I also don't know whats wrong with GDIPLUS - it may be a bit slow, but it is reliable and well known.
Working with FMX I found the naming conventions partly pretty unusual and some properties more difficult than they have to, i.e. "Align".
I am open for any suggestions, tips and links to literature :-)
