Mailmerge with bands
|
|
WPTools includes a rather powerful mail merge engine. Sometimes you need a recursive approach to create reports or serial letters with embedded data. If you want to save the report results to an editable format, such as RTF, graphical report engines often have the problem that the output is not like the template.
WPReporter (akn SuperMerge) is an add-on for WPTools. It is included in the 'WPTools Bundle' and can also be purchased seperately if you already bought WPTools.
The WReporter add-on makes WPTools the perfect tool to create reports as RTF files! Forget about OLE solutions - WPReporter is easier to use, quicker, more effective and doesn't rely on any external programs.

With WPTools 5 we have extended the editor for the WPReporter templates. You can use the standard text editor as editor for the templates. Only one additional, simple dialog has to be displayed.
This new band dialog makes it easy to create bands. It is possible to create a new group inside of the current one or to make the new group the parent of the current group. To insert a new paragraph at the end of a group press "INSERT"while the group is selected.
The user can now expand and collapse groups by clicking on the arrow. (Internally the groups are handled as nested paragraphs: paragraphs inside of a group are handled as children of the group paragraph.)

Calculation in documents |
|
|
Included with WPReporter is a formula parser. It has been optimized towork with currency values. So you can add calculation to your text and tables. The calculation feature has been optimized for business needs, i.e. sum values and apply VAT. It uses numbers which are displayed (rounded to 2 decimals) not using internal exact values which would lead to incorrect results.
The calculation feature uses cell/paragraph names and formulas. The names can be used in the formulas an are replaced by the sum of the values which use this name.
The easiest way to sum up a column is to assign a certain name to each cell in this column. Use the same name as formula of the cell which should display the total. It is also possible to display results in field objects, so you can embed it in the text. But WPTools also supports formulas to read out neighbour cells: "left(1)" will return the value of the first cell to the left - so formulas can stay valid when rows are inserted.
