22. October 2026 fotoARRAY V3.1.7

Enhanced compare tool [F3] with new toolbar:
Further improved Development directly in the GRID, now also works in the [F3] compare grid (PRO edition only).
Improved Motion Blur effect - when the new switch "Blur Mask content" was activated, a copy of the image based on the mask is blurred and placed on top of the image without any mask. This is a powerful tool to blur moving objects in an image. (PRO)
Improved Dynamic Slider (In "Tone", Free and PRO): Now with the ability to dial in negative values. Now there is a a separate slider for light areas.
Improved CopyTool with a new "Easy Mode".
The compare grid now has a new toolbar with the ability to change the number of columns and rows of images to be compared.
Improved speed when opening RAW images in the editor due to special fast decoding DLL and a new cache. (PRO)
Fixed problems:
Fixed posterization-like rings that appeared in some images with a warm white balance.
Fixed UI issues with the vertical and horizontal sliders in perspective correction.
Fixed line handling in the Warp tool: the image is no longer rotated when a guide line runs from one edge to the other.

13. October 2026 fotoARRAY V3.1.5 - significant upgrade.

It brings Development directly in the GRID to the PRO edition.
Press "M" to start this mode. You can instantly change the main properties or open a flying window to adjust the curve of one or selected images - directly in the grid. The update is rendered by a new, highly optimized developing engine.
You can also create "Views" - limit the albums and/or keywords which are displayed in the tree view. (Free/PRO)
We also updated the look of the application, mostly the RAW editor. (In the settings menu you can enable the traditional theme)

9. October 2026 fotoARRAY V3.1 - this is a major upgrade.

It brings AI content detection to the PRO edition.
There is a new share dialog which makes it easy to access an album from your cellphone (local WIFI).
The watched folders allow it to copy images to a special folder, edit them there and copy the modified side car files (recipies) back to the original location.
There is the new web app "my.fotoarray" which lets you share selected images with everybody by just passing on a compressed archive.
You can integrate an external command line friedly RAW developer.
In our own photo editor you can change the areas the shadow/light controls work.

25. September 2026 fotoArray V3.0.20

fotoARRAY V3 has been thoroughly revised. The database is now managed by a separate process, the server, for maximum data safety. For the same reason, images are scanned in a sandbox.

Working with fotoARRAY hasn’t changed. You select several folders or albums as the source and narrow down the view with filters (keywords, date, EXIF, colors, stars ...). You can format the view in several layout modes and export it as a PDF.

fotoARRAY RAW (inbuilt and stand alone photo editor)

The built-in photo editor supports perspective correction, warp and a sophisticated layer-based masking system. It puts special emphasis on a clean 16-bit development pipeline. You can also connect other editors if you prefer.

The PRO Editon also includes the “fotoARRAY FileBrowser”. It shares data with the server to display your images, and it also shows all your other files.

Upgrading from the previous version

You can import a catalog from the previous version, including previews, folders, stars, colors, keywords, albums and EXIF data. Note that V3 allows a maximum of 5 stars, while V2 allowed 10. If this matters to you, I recommend assigning keywords to the affected images in V2 before you import.

fotoARRAY 1 was released in July 2020. It started from a simple need: a way to look at a large collection of pictures quickly, to mark the good ones and to find them again, without importing everything into a program that wants to own the pictures. It brought the file browser that shows several folders in one view, the database with thumbnails, albums and hierarchical keywords, the timeline and the date filter that understands "every 24th of December". From the first version it could export the grid as it was shown, and it could hand pictures over to other programs.

fotoARRAY 2.0 followed in January 2022. It added the non destructive editor with recipes, the compare view, the PDF export with the original JPEG data embedded, the album directories that show developed versions in place of the originals, fotoARRAY Broadcast for sharing pictures with a phone in the local network, XMP sidecars and the filter toolbar. Version 2 was the program most of our users worked with for four years, and much of what we learned from them went into version 3.
